Mission, Ministry, and Mischief

What is an Installation?

An installation service is the recognition that a minister is settled in a particular congregation. The ceremony celebrates and affirms the bond between minister and congregation.

The service also highlights the relationship between the minister and the congregation and the larger community of Unitarian Universalism. Other ministers and representatives from various branches of UUism will often bring messages of welcome to the assembled group and celebrate the occasion. Guest speakers will preach and play various roles in the service, including advice and instruction for both the minister and the congregation.

In congregational polity, each religious community can choose and call its own minister. Ministers are not assigned or imposed upon a congregation by a bishop, conference, synod or presbytery. The UUCSJS worked very hard to find the right minister to come here. Rev. Dawn searched a wide variety of congregations to find the UUCSJS. The installation will affirm the relationship that has come from those combined searches and invite guests and visitors to join in the celebration!
