Family Promise of Atlantic County
We have become involved with Family Promise of Atlantic County.
What is Family Promise?
Family Promise, the parent organization, is an organization that grew out of the National Interfaith Hospitality Network. There are separate affiliate groups serving many different counties in New Jersey and other states.
Starting in 2011, the group began inviting religious organizations throughout Atlantic County to join in their program. Through its participating churches, Family Promise provides sleeping space for families that are temporarily homeless, as well as access to a day center for parents to look for work and shelter, and carry on their lives with respect and community help.
What does UUCSJS do to help?
UUCSJS had a congregation-wide vote in June 2014 to join as a participating congregation. Once a quarter, we will house families needing shelter for a one-week span, and provide breakfast and dinner each day. During the day, the children go to school and the adults go to the Day Center which is located at Zion Lutheran Church in Egg Harbor City, where they will look for work and shelter as well as do the usual chores and routines of normal life.
Hosting families has now begun in 2017!
